Renting A Dumpster For Your Cleanup Project

by Barry Moore

Large amounts of trash or debris can be overwhelming to deal with and sometimes can present you with a problem when you are trying to clean up an area or piece of property. One solution is to consider renting a dumpster or roll-off container to put the waste and other material in.

Determine the Container Needs

Several things can affect the container that you need for your project. The size of the container needs to be large enough to handle the job but must also fit in the area you need to have the company place it. If you have a limited amount of space, you may need to consider having the dumpster company bring a small container and then dump it several times for you.

Discuss the material that you are picking up with the dumpster company to ensure that you can dump it under their guidelines. The dumpster that you get for your project may be specific to the material that is going in it. If you know you are going to have a lot of construction debris, the company may suggest a construction dumpster, but if you are cleaning out a large number of cardboard boxes, you may need a dumpster specifically for recycling paper or cardboard.

Duration of the Rental

You will want to determine the duration of the dumpster rental and talk to the rental company about the cost over time. The cost of the rental may be based only on the material going in the dumpster, but some dumpster companies rent the container or dumpster as well as charging for dumping.

Make sure you know what the cost is and whether there are additional costs when you sign the contract for your rental. Surprise costs are only going to serve to frustrate you, so ask any questions that you might have before you agree on the terms of the rental.

Pick Up and Drop Off

When you determine what you need and are ready to have the container delivered, it is a good idea to have someone there to meet the driver. If you need the dumpster in a specific spot, you may need to show the driver where that spot is.

In most situations, you will not need to be there when the driver picks up your dumpster, but if you need to open a gate or give them access to the area that the dumpster is in, talk to the dumpster company about setting up a specific time to meet the driver. The coordination of the delivery and removal of the container may be necessary if there is a security or access restriction on the area that the dumpster is being used in.
