What To Try Before Calling A Plumber For A Clogged Toilet

by Barry Moore

Do you have a toilet that is not flushing properly, and you do not know what to do about it? If so, you should try these tips before you reach out to a plumber for assistance.

Let The Toilet Sit For Awhile

A clogged toilet is something that you shouldn't stress over right away. It is possible that the best solution to fixing the problem is to just give it some time to work itself out. If someone in your home used a lot of toilet paper, all of that paper may be stuck further down the pipe. Thankfully, the toilet paper will start breaking up the longer it is exposed to water. By simply waiting several hours, that toilet paper may start to dissolve and allow the toilet to become unclogged again.

Use A Coat Hanger

Take a metal coat hanger and straighten it out as much as you can. Then you can force that coat hanger into the bottom of the toilet to try and break up whatever is clogged inside it. This may be more effective than using a plunger if the clog is near the top of the drain pipe, rather than deep inside it.

Dump A Bucket Of Water In The Bowl

Another thing that you can attempt is to quickly dump a lot of water into the bowl of the toilet. Just make sure that you are not pouring more water into the toilet bowl than what will naturally fit into it. This action will put a lot of head pressure on the clog and potentially cause it to move further down into the sewer.

Use The Right Plunger

Sometimes the problem is that you are not using the right kind of plunger. If you are using a flat cup style plunger, know that this is best used on sinks. The cup is not going to form a good seal on the bowl on the toilet, and not cause you to create a lot of suction. Try using a cup style plunger that is going to fit into the bottom of the bowl and force a lot more air to unclog what is in the sewer line.

Tried these tips and still not get the toilet unclogged? Then you know it is time to reach out to a plumber. They will have all the tools necessary to get the water flowing again within your toilet. For more information, visit a website like https://robsseptictanks.com/.
